Fremantle will unveil its second pick from last year’s National Draft with Hayden Crozier selected to make his AFL debut in Saturday’s important match against Adelaide at Patersons Stadium.

Eighteen-year-old Crozier, who was drafted with pick 20, has been in solid form for his WAFL club East Perth this season playing as a high forward.

The spring-heeled Victorian youngster has already developed a reputation for taking a spectacular mark following his screamer in the National Under 18’s carnival last year, coincidentally at the same venue he’ll make his debut at.

He was one of three changes to the team, with Jack Anthony back to provide another avenue in attack.

Garrick Ibbotson has also earned a recall ...

FREMANTLE has fallen outside the top eight after a 48-point loss to West Coast at Patersons Stadium on Sunday.

Despite the Eagles failing to kick a goal until eight minutes into the second quarter and trailing by eight points midway through the term, they blew away Fremantle from there on.

West Coast piled on 63 of the next 64 points to secure the 11.18 (84) to 5.6 (36) triumph in front of 40,905 fans.

Fremantle's scoreline was its lowest ever against West Coast, failing to beat the 6.9 (45) they posted in 1996 and 2004.

It was also the lowest score ever recorded at Patersons Stadium by a 'home' team since the ground began hosting VFL football in 1987.

The defensive effort from the Eagles was a fitting way for ...

Fremantle has called on the tall timber for Sunday’s Carlton Mid Derby against West Coast, selecting ruckman Jon Griffin and key defender Alex Silvagni in the final 22.

Jesse Crichton has also been included, with the three omissions being Garrick Ibbotson, Lee Spurr and Dylan Roberton.

Griffin, who has not played in the same team as Sandilands since joining Freo last season, will help the three-time All Australian battle in-form Eagles’ ruck duo Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui.

Silvagni comes in for his first Freo game of the season after playing WAFL for Claremont up to this point.

Assistant coach Michael Prior said the 24-year-old was a valuable addition to the team because of his versatility.

“We just think ...

Fremantle has submitted its 25-man squad for Sunday’s Carlton Mid Derby against the West Coast Eagles.

Five players have been added, including defender Alex Silvagni for what could be his first match of the season.

Silvagni was in good form for Claremont in the WAFL last week, hauling in nine marks playing as a defender.

Ruckman Jonathon Griffin also comes into the squad along with Nick Suban, Jesse Crichton and new recruit Hayden Crozier.

The two players out of the team that played Hawthorn last week were hard running defender Dylan Roberton and Garrick Ibbotson, who was a surprise omission.

Three players will be cut when the final 22 is announced at 2.30pm (WST) on Friday.

A DOMINANT first half has inspired Hawthorn to a percentage-boosting victory against top-four rivals Fremantle at Aurora Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks completely stifled Fremantle early in the game, restricting their opponents to just two goals in the first half and kicking 10 of their own, setting up a match-winning break.

The 17.17 (119) to 9.9 (63) win was the third-straight for the Hawks following their round-five fadeout in the second half against Sydney, also at Launceston.

That disaster prompted plenty of scrutiny at the time and the Hawks were still outside the top eight coming into this match.

But Hawthorn - widely rated as premiership contenders - was too good for the sixth-placed Fremantle.

Clinton Young...

Fremantle has made one change for Saturday’s Indigenous Round match against Hawthorn, with Jay van Berlo replacing the injured Adam McPhee.

Senior coach Ross Lyon indicated before flying out for Launceston today that McPhee, who sustained a calf injury last week, would likely only miss the Aurora Stadium game.

The emergencies were Jesse Crichton, Jonathon Griffin and Alex Silvagni.

Van Berlo’s selection was the culmination of consistently solid WAFL performances for West Perth this season.

Assistant and senior development coach Simon Lloyd said the 23-year-old could play a variety of roles and be relied upon to give his all for the team.

“Jay’s a versatile player,” he said.

“The biggest ...

FREMANTLE has kicked away to beat Port Adelaide by 40 points at Patersons Stadium on Sunday, with captain Matthew Pavlich booting his 500th career goal in the dying minutes.

The veteran bounced back to form to kick four goals, becoming the first Fremantle player to reach the magical 500 milestone as his team won 12.15 (87) to 7.5 (47).

Inaccuracy from Ross Lyon's men meant Port Adelaide was still a chance of stealing an upset win early in the final quarter, but Fremantle booted four of the last five goals to win comfortably.

It leaves Freo just one game behind ladder leaders West Coast, while Port Adelaide was left to contemplate its sixth consecutive loss, coming after a week of pressure on coach Matthew Primus. &...

Fremantle has finalised its 22 for Sunday’s game against Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium, with Aaron Sandilands confirmed as a starter for the crucial contest.

The 211cm star will lead the ruck after Jonathon Griffin was omitted.

That was the only change from the 22 that defeated Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium last weekend.

Alex Silvagni, Jay van Berlo, and Griffin will be the emergencies for the game.

Port’s ruck brigade has been comprehensively beaten in the past few weeks minus young talls Matthew Lobbe and Jarrad Redden.

Former Hawthorn player Brent Renouf has battled manfully, but the Power has lost the hitout count by a combined 102-49 in the past fortnight.

The job will only get ...

FREMANTLE'S Greg Broughton is the latest player to successfully escape penalty for injuring an opponent with a slide after successfully challenging a rough conduct charge at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday.

Broughton was offered a reprimand by the Match Review Panel after a collision that left Gold Coast midfielder David Swallow with an injured left ankle at Metricon Stadium last Saturday.

He elected to risk a one-week suspension by contesting the charge at the tribunal.
Although Broughton slid into the second-quarter contest that preceded his collision with Swallow, he had eyes only for the ball as he slid and beat the Sun to the ball.

Once in possession, Broughton turned his back from Swallow who was ...
