One week closer to finals. Some packed up already I think. But still some good games to come. After this week there could be a couple more preparing for the summer break.
Talking footy. As one former Footy show host used to say, "A week is a long time in footy".It sure is Eddie.Funny how this bloke used to host the footy show, allow scurrilous scuttle butt about other teams. He encouraged some of the "Best news grabbers"To break stories about other clubs.Break wind more like it. Most of these rumours or news reports were garbage. But did you ever notice that none of them involved the Collingwood footy club!!
But I read today that Eddie want an Inquiry into how a story is doing the rounds a bout the Collingwood FC having a gambling problem at the club. You do have to be joking Eddie, for sure you do.
They say Karma is a bitch.Looks like a bit of it has come back to bite you on the bum Eddie.
First test all done and dusted.Aussies win by 251 runs.A victory that on day one was a mere fairy tale.Steve Smith dragged the other along with him with a brilliant display of batting in both innings.144 followed up with 142.Amazing.Some other good performances.Wade getting a ton after a duck in the first dig.Lyon bagging a handful plus one.Closing out the day and the test.England I think missed Anderson, bowled only four overs and then breaking down with a calf injury.Second test will be a real test once again for both sides. Looking forward to next Thursday.
And some not so special news from America... another couple of mass killings. Will they never learn?
Now to footy.
Friday night starts round 21.A night that is expected to be around 1C in Canberra. A cold start to what could be a good round.
Giants V Hawks.
The Giants just fell over the line last week in the Battle of the Bridge.A couple of controversial umpiring decisions(nothing new), could have decided the result. The Giants have lost their leading goal kicker,Jeremy Cameron, who has been in great touch.Still with a load of injured class players. Have won 3 of their last five, so in pretty good form.
Hawks. Will run out of luck if they lose this one.Two games plus percentage out of the eight. They have three wins from their last five games , but lost their last two.A do or die game for them.
Still on board the Neeshies wagon, and think they will win this one.
Melbourne V Collingwood.
Melbourne,Losers of their last four games and not showing much. But supporters might be more interested to know that there will be snow on the peaks this weekend.Might be warmer there than at the MCG.Enough said.
Collingwood.have only won two of their last five and are in trouble I think. They won last week , but not sure that win is much to hand the hat on.Only beating the Suns. An injury list longer than Chopper Reeds criminal record.
Hard to pick a winner with these two.But will go with the Pies.
Port V Swans.
Port are a side that change from one week tot he next.Up and down like a yoyo. They have only won two of their last five, but had a good win over the Bombers last week. A team of young talented players who have had good seasons. Not sure whether they will be up or downs this week.
Swans, they ran the Giants to the line last week, maybe unlucky to lose.Their record of late is not good, lost their last five, but can still play some good football at various times.Sitting in a position that is not the usual for them at number 15 on the ladder.
The ladder tells us that Port will win this one but who knows.Just by the ladder, and having more to lose, I am going for Port.
Lions V Suns.
The Lions are the talk of the town at the moment.Being spoken of as possible flag winners. They are winners of all seven games since their bye.A team in good form.A great mix of players. They have imported some experience from around the country, but also have blooded some very good junior players.
Suns are in trouble, big trouble. More trouble than Brick Bradford(for those that remember) and it doesn't look like there is any way out for them.
The Lions by a big margin I think.
Essendon V Bulldogs.
Essendon prior to last weeks loss had won four on the trot and playing good footy. They have , like Collingwood, a long injury list. This game is a vital one for them to win if they want to take part in the finals.
Bulldogs are having an up and down season like a few others.Won three from their last five. But do play good fast exciting football.A game plus percentage out of the eight and this may be their last chance.Like their opponents, this is a vital game for them, if they want finals action.
Tipping the Bombers here.
Geelong V Roos.
Geelong, the once purring pussies are struggling to even get a meow out at the moment.Still sitting atop the ladder, but by percentage only. They have lost three of their last five, including a loss to Fremantle last week. Are they running out of lives!!!!!!
Roos,Have won only two of their last five and in 13th position on the ladder.A place in the finals a thing of the past.
Geelong have to find some form pretty soon, or they will lose a look at the double chance. But regardless of their latter form, I am tipping Geelong.
Saints V Fremantle.
The Saints have only won two of their last five, so not in all that good of form.At their best they can run most sides close , but they lack consistency.
Fremantle, like the Saints have only won two of their last five. But secured a huge scalp last week in dominating the Cats.A totally unexpected win for the Purple Army.
A game and percentage separates these two side with freo above the Saints. It is a big if, but if, Fremantle bring the same pressure to the Saints as they did to the Cats then, I am tipping Freo.So Freo for me.
Richmond V Carlton.
Richmond are on the march, the Army is falling in behind them. The Tigers roar is beginning to be heard once more. They have not lost since the bye, and look to be in ominous form coming towards the finals.
Carlton, a transformed side sine the removal of their coach.Seems that their new coach David Teague is going to be favourite for the job next year.Won three of their last five, but lost to the Eagles last week at home.
It is hard to make a case for Carlton her.Richmond for me, maybe comfortably.
Eagles V Crows.
Eagles, are in real good form at the moment.Winning away from home once again last week.Such a potent bunch of small forwards to back up their bigger team mates. They have to be close to , or in better form that last year.
Crows, are clinging to their spot inside the top eight by the skin of their teeth.Only won two of their last five, but had a confidence boosting win last week at home against the Saints.
Battle of the birds in Perth could see the murder of the Crows I think.Eagles for me.
All over once again.I hope you all have a good weekend.
Keep warm and dry.Good luck to all the tipsters. And may your team win, as long as it isn't the other mob.
