Friday rolls around once more.Cricket and football to watch tonight.
Cricket is in the balance.Poms rolled for 258, should have been far less but for a couple of dropped catches. The Kwakkas catch was a gimmeee. Should have been gobbled up.That was Burns at around mid 20s I think Paine should have had him later. So I guess you could almost forgive Paine for dropping him later. He should have been sipping cordial back in the pavilion.
Aussie bowlers shared the wickets, three to Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon. One to Siddle.Siddle was the unlucky bowler to have the two drops. After his first over , he bowled well.Aussies at 1/30 at stumps.Warner failed again.Bowled by Broad for 3.Not a good start tot he series for Davie.Hopefully Banger and Kwakka can build a huge partnership.
As has been reported, the legendary Graham"Polly " Farmer passed away earlier this week.I don't think that all the accolades handed to Polly can say just how influential he was to Australian rules football right through out the country. His contribution to the game, as a player will never be seen again. He changed the way the game was played. To me, the greatest of greats.Rest Peacefully Polly.
As for footy this week , it looks a bit like the finals have come a couple of weeks early.Lions V Cats at the Gabba, for top spot.
Tigers V WCE.Maybe for Eagles to slip into top spot, or to drop to fourth on the ladder.
The battle of the Scavenging bird, the Crows and The Magpies,Both fighting for position in the eight.Pies seem secure, but Crows on the outer.
Another finals type game Giant V Dogs.Giants not in good form and fighting for their spot.Doggies looking to secure a spot in the eight.
A weekend of movement could be about this round.
One of the games of insignificance to start the round. Both the Dees and the Swans. The Swans one game clear of the Dees.
Neither side have played a role in making up the top eight of late. The Dees have been so so disappointing to the football public and their supporters.
The Swans have dropped away this year as well, but a few injuries have not helped.A side rebuilding, with some promising young players. It seems that the forgotten man of the Swans Buddy Franklin will not return this season to play his 300th game.
A winner!!! Hell who knows, but neither side instills any confidence. But I guess I will go for the Swans, because I think the Dees have been far more disappointing.
Carlton V Saints.
Another game of insignificance tot he top eight. Both sides playing for pride and Carlton playing for their new coach, David Teague. The Saints, maybe playing to get Brett Ratten the job.
Both sides have played some good football through out the year, languish towards the bottom of the ladder.
Carlton have been big improvers since replacing Bolton.Teague seems to have the full support of the players and seems like he knows what he is doing.
The Saints had a come from behind last minute win against finals aspirants, Fremantle last week.It looks like they are all behind Ratten as he tries to get improvement from them.
Both sides have won three of their last five, so not much between them
Selecting a winner is hard, but I will pick the Blues for this one.
Lions V Cats.
The battle of the felines. Are the Cats house cats or wild cats from the jungle!!!And with out doubt the Lions have Pride in what they have achieved so far this season under Chris Fagan.
Scott V Fagan, it could boil down to in the finish.Just which coaches better on the day.
Fagan seems unflappable in his job.Scott at times a bit erratic and involved in small thing that upset him.
Only percentage divides them at the moment.Could the Lions become the pride of not only Brisbane, but the whole of Queensland and the AFL by climbing to the top of the tree!
Were the Cats that good in keeping the Roos to just one goal last week!!!!
I am thinking the Lions are running hot and will go hunting the cats on Saturday afternoon.Lions for me.
Crows V Pies.
I guess both sides have been disappointing. Both have suffered injuries all season. The Crows have been a side that seems to have some internal troubles.Players dropping form when they should be lifting.Players not happy at being dropped because of under performing.
The Pies with a long list of injuries.Another club that seemingly have issues with lack of discipline from their players.
A vital game for both clubs. The Pies secure in the eight, and the Crows fighting with the Power for the eight spot.
Based on last weeks performances, the Crows were a much better side.Running the Eagles to a tough game in Perth.
A game that can go either way, but will tip the Crows.
Roos V Power.
The Roos yet again became total road kill last week.Maybe the trip down the highway to Geelong was their undoing.A long stretch of road.
will there be another way of being wiped out this week. Will the Port side actually turn the power on and burn them!!!!
The Power have too much to lose in this game.Power for me.
Dockers V Essendon.
Two losers from last week. The Dockers losing a game they had wrapped up with two minutes to go against the Saints. The Dons, officially horrendous against the Dogs last week. The only kicked a couple of late goals after the Doggies went into the kennel for a shower.Rumblings from the Melbourne media and some people of influence at the Bombers seem to be aimed at coach,John Worsfold.
At home I am tipping Fremantle to win and give club great Aaron Sandilands a winning send off in front of his home crowd.
Tigers V Eagles. This along with the Lions V Cats game, should be absolute blinders.Eagles are in top form.A good hard tough win against the Crows last week.Sitting along side the Cats and Lions as top of the ladder.
The Tigers are becoming a real threat tot he competition. They have won their last five, but sit a game behind the Eagles and the others atop the ladder. They are getting back some players from injury and seem to be finding form at the right time of the season.
The last five times these clubs have met, the Eagles lead 3/2.Winning two in Melbourne.
I am tipping the Eagles in this one , but it will be a real finals type game.
Giants V Doggies.
The Giants almost became frozen statues last week in the snow in Canberra.A hugely disappointing result.
The Doggies coming of a smashing win over the Bombers.
I am not sure the Giants can afford another result like last week and I am also sure they will respond in a positive manner.
Without any real reason , I am tipping the Giants.
Hawks V Suns.Another nothing game really. The main interest will be the last game before the home Hawks crowd for Jordon Roughead. He has been a great player for the Hawks.
Hawks by a long way for me.
Well another week done and dusted.
I hope you all have a great weekend. Keep warm and dry.For the tipsters, good luck and may your side win. As long as it isn't the other mob.
